The emcee leaned into the mic. Her knees shook a little as she stared at him waiting. Waiting for the question. The question that only she has to answer. In front of everyone. Seven girls are competing for the title of Miss Kansas Job's Daughter 2018-2019. Glancing down at the card in his hand he proceeds to ask Madison her open ended question. "What is your favorite food?" She thinks a bit and follows with a story about how her mom's homemade mac 'n cheese is her favorite food. Through out the week she's also taken a written test over the knowledge of Job's Daughters. Wrote prepaired remarks, was interviewed by a judge panel, critiqued on a memorization of the ritual, and judged on poise, grace, and interaction with the girls throughout the week. Once everything is added up a Miss Congeniality and runner up are announced. A new Jr. Miss and Miss are announced, sashed and crowned! It's an exciting event that each girl looks forward to during session. This year Madison received the crown and title for Miss. She will also get the opportunity to compete for the Miss International Job's Daughter title in just a week.
I've watched Madison succeed in so much in life already. She will put her mind to something and never sit back and watch it go. Knowing Madison since before she was born, has been such amazing gift. I've watched her become the Jr. Miss Kansas Job's Daughter, Honored Queen of Bethel #36, Grand Bethel Honored Queen of Kansas, and now Miss Kansas Job's Daughter. She's also an amazing violinist. Talented in the film world. Creative artist and so much more.
It's session time again for the order of Job's Daughters. Session is a once a year occurrence that takes place the second week of June for the state of Kansas. It's always hot and sticky, so what better to do than get a bunch of youth girls together in hotel for competitions, meetings, and a pageant?! During this week there is memorization competitions, arts and crafts competition, singing and dancing placements, and much more. There's the Grand Bethel meeting where new officers are chosen for new stations for the upcoming year.
After a good long week of swimming, competing, long meetings, and no sleep it's time to pack up. Everyone heads their separate ways, but comes together as a state in three months for Grand Bethel weekend. I hope you all enjoy seeing her personality come alive in the shoot from her Miss Kansas pictures. If anyone is interested in learning more about Job's Daughters and wants to join check them out here. If you reside in Kansas you can check out their page and see if there is a local Bethel in your area. You only need to be 10 join, but only get to stay until you're 20!
It was such an honor to capture this girls photographs again! I can't wait to see how she does at supreme.
